And for a while, I lost pieces of myself in the process. It felt like I was giving everything I had, with no room left to breathe or grow. 

Some days, feeling pulled in so many directionsโ€”trying to be fully present for my daughter, show up with heart for my work and clients, and somehow hold onto my own identity. Thereโ€™s so much love and fulfillment in both, yet it can feel overwhelming, like Iโ€™m constantly split between these parts of myself.

Today, I made a choice to pause, to ground myself, and to let my creativity flow. I asked my partner for a few hours to recharge and headed to a quiet coffee shop.  felt myself come back to life. In that stillness, ideas started to flowโ€”ways to support mothers through pregnancy and postpartum that come from a deep place of understanding and respect for these sacred seasons.

After those few hours, I came home recharged. I got to paint with my daughter, laugh with her, and simply be present. Taking time for myself allowed me to show up more fully, and I was reminded of how powerful it is to care for ourselves as we care for others.

๐ŸŒฟ 1 part Nettle Leaf (rich in minerals like iron and calcium) 
๐ŸŒฟ 1 part Milky Oats (calms the nerves and promotes relaxation) 
๐ŸŒฟ 1 part Lemon Balm (soothes the mind and as a mint helps with digestion) 
๐ŸŒฟ 1 part Linden (eases stress and tension )
๐ŸŒฟ 1 part Peppermint (refreshes and eases nausea)

๐Ÿซ– Steep 1-2 tbsp of this blend in hot water for 10-15 minutes. Or better yet, infuse overnight. Enjoy hot or iced.

Last week was my first in person herbal intensive at @vcih.clinical.herbalism and I wasnโ€™t sure how it would go since I wasnโ€™t โ€œplant gardener extraordinaireโ€

But my friends, the week was so amazing! We did everything from gardening, to plant spirit meditations and advanced medicine making. And I made some awesome new friends.

Coming home I set the intention to keep deepening my plant connections and grow some plants.

Feeling like your nervous system needs some love? Feeling like your nervous system needs some love? These 3 herbs are here to help! ๐ŸŒฑ

At the end of a long day, it can be hard to transition from being โ€œonโ€ to being present. You may feel spacey, distracted or "in your head". 

Working with the elements, we'd consider this excess air and not enough earth. 

These plants are allies for grounding, going inward + sinking down:

* Linden-The flowers and leaves of this tree are sweet and smell like honey. Even when dried, they offer a warm and inviting aroma. It's been called the "tree of happiness". Linden is moistening, cooling and relaxing. It makes a delicious tea on it's own... calming the heart and melting away stress. 

* Wood Betony- A beautiful bitter nervine that helps to relax tense muscles while calming & gently tonifying the NS. Turn to this herb if you hold tension in your neck and shoulders. (Blue vervain Verbena hastata would be another great choice for you here). You'll discover many muscle relaxing herbs are bitter...they not so gently remind us with their taste to be present and focus on something other than our thoughts! With good formulating (wood betony is quite bitter) this can make a decent tea or can be taken as a tincture. 

*Rose-Rose lifts the hearts, and is considered an exhilarant (meaning it lifts the spirits). Turn to rose during periods of grief, overwork, or when unpleasant emotions arise or linger.  Energetically rose helps to calm stress and reconnect you to the joy of life.  Sprinkle a few rose petals into your tea mug or make a rose infused honey for a gentle sweet treat. 

๐ŸŒฑ Grounding & Inward Tea Blend:

3 parts Linden
1 part Wood Betony
1/2 part Rose
1/2 part Spearmint
1/2 part Licorice root or rose infused honey

Use 1-2 TBSP in 8 oz hot water. Let steep for 10-15 minutes. Strain and enjoy!

Jess Ohanian offers holistic postpartum care for mothers in the sacred postpartum window. She specializes in Ayurvedic postpartum doula support, nourishing meal preparation, herbal consultations and wellness, and personalized support for postpartum mamas. .

I currently offer in-home Ayurvedic postpartum doula care in Massachusetts and throughout the Greater Boston area, including but not limited to:
Canton, Sharon, Norwood, Westwood, Newton, Natick, Jamaica Plain, Easton, Dover,ย  Dedham, Milton, Quincy, Needham, and surrounding communities. If you’re located slightly outside this area, still reach out. For those outside of my in-person service area, I also offer virtual postpartum preparation, planning, and support sessions so you can still receive support no matter where you live.
